It might be difficult to ensure that your plants receive the right water balance, especially during the summer season. Our tutorial below explains how to keep your flora from becoming overwatered or underwatered. When you need professional lawn care in Council Bluffs, IA, Omaha NE, or the surrounding areas, give Francisco’s Tree and Landscaping a call.
How To Water
Different plants require different watering practices in order to thrive. If you have a tiny yard or a lot of delicate or potted plants, hand watering is the best option. For large, grassy yards, trees, and hardy bushes, installing a sprinkler system is the best option. Sprinkler systems are also beneficial for plants that require several waterings per day. Smaller yards or plants that demand more water can also benefit from portable sprinklers. This allows you to change the direction of the sprinkler to suit your needs.
Make a Watering Schedule
Watering plants in the summer should be done early in the morning or after sunset so that the heat does not evaporate the majority of the water. You might also need to adjust how much water you use in the summer versus the winter because many plants become dormant in the winter and require less water. Keep your eyes peeled for rain. After a storm, plants do not require watering, and overwatering can be hazardous.
Know Your Soil
So how do you know when you've added enough water? When a potted plant has enough water, it will begin to seep out of the bottom of the container. Use a moisture sensor or insert a spade into the soil near the plant to check for moisture in plants that are already in the ground. There is enough water when you can feel moisture 6 to 12 inches into the soil.
